Have you walked or cycled on the Brushfield route?

Derbyshire County Council has examined and researched the BOAT claim on the green lane which runs from Upperdale near Monsal Head to the hamlet of Brushfield, grid reference SK17757213 to SK15907150 (see map below). It has decided that the route does not have a public right of way for motor vehicles and cannot become a BOAT on historic evidence. The off-roading organisations have objected. The objections mean that there has to be a public inquiry. The historic evidence is clear and is that there is no historic right of way for vehicles. In these circumstances the outcome of the Inquiry will hinge on a) whether or not the offroading organisations can prove that 4x4s and motor bikes have used the route regularly since 1984; and whether or not use of the route by 4x4s and motor bikes has caused/is causing a public nuisance.
The Peak District Green Lanes Alliance has started work on gathering evidence for the inquiry. They want to hear from walkers and cyclists who know and use/have used the route and who recall when motor vehicles first started to use it. They also want to hear from anyone who has evidence of public nuisance being caused by 4x4 and motor bike use of the route. Public nuisance in this context includes things like: no longer being able to use the route; no longer being able to enjoy using the route; having been put in danger on the route by encounters with 4x4s or motor bikes. If you have evidence which you think may be useful, please contact the Peak District Green Lanes Alliance by emailing stubsiana@googlemail.com.
