New footbridge funded by a generous donation from a member

The society has been able to fully fund the installation of a new footbridge on the Cheshire-Derbyshire boundary.  The site, at grid reference SJ 998786 [map], is close to the popular Windgather Rocks on Hartington Upper Quarter footpath 135. The footpath runs from Taxal Edge eastwards to the Goyt valley. The bridge (PNFS number B35) replaces an awkward crossing where walkers were obliged to balance on slippery logs over an muddy stream. Soon after the need for a bridge was reported, a PNFS member approached us with the suggestion that he would like to make a donation to the society on condition that the money was spent on a suitable footbridge project.  Derbyshire County Council quickly moved into action and provided one of their standard footbridges.  This was installed in May 2014 by their direct works contractor. Any member who would be interested in making a similar donation, please contact the Treasurer.
