Parking in the Dane Valley, near Winkle is limited. We have permission to park up to 10 cars at Gig Hall. See the map below for routes into the area.

???
On Saturday 17th August at 11:00am PNFS members and friends are invited to a short ceremony to unveil a plaque on our newest signpost marking the 130th anniversary of the inauguration of the Peak District and Northern Counties Footpaths Preservation Society in Manchester on August 16th, 1894. The plaque will be on Signpost 656 located in the Dane Valley about a mile southwest of Wincle at SJ956642. This is at the junction of Wincle footpaths 38 and 34. The signpost and plaque have been donated by David Gosling, Vice Chair of the Society. Click the photograph below to see an interactive map of the location.
The ceremony will mark the 130 years in which the Society, renamed Peak and Northern Footpaths Society in 1968, has been fighting to protect and improve rights of way across a large swathe of northern England.

Getting there

The Signpost is about one mile west of Wincle along the Dane Valley, so most of us will park on the road and walk to the signpost starting at 10.30. If you wish to park nearer to the location of the signpost, there is limited parking at Gig Hall, but please let me know if you intend to park there (ring me on 07841647275).

Celebration

There will be an opportunity to celebrate the anniversary by sampling the wares of the Wincle Brewery after the ceremony.

All members, friends and families are invited to join us on the 17th August for this celebration.
