New Vice President

Published on 2019-01-02 16:54:35

We are delighted to announce that the poet Ian Macmillan, the Bard of Barnsley, has agreed to become a Vice-President of the Society. Ian, lives in the village of Darfield, near Barnsley, where Peak and Northern is active protecting footpaths. He is well-known for his broadcasting, being the poet in residence for Barnsey FC and for his work in schools and prisons. He has said, "I like the landscape with its constant reminders of history and politics. And I like our oppositional nature, our ‘brussen-ness’ to use a Yorkshire term.” We need plenty more people with brussen-ness to keep fighting for our freedom to walk rights of way all over the north.

His appointment is subject to approval by the AGM in April.
