A new bridleway near Sheffield is being constructed under the "Connect 2" national scheme managed by SUSTRANS, as a result of a public vote on television for funds put up by the National Lottery. The scheme is the creation of a brand new public bridleway which when finished will provide a safe off-road route for cyclists, horseriders & pedestrians between the suburb of Halfway in Sheffield with the town of Killamarsh in NE Derbyshire. This route will run parallel with a busy & narrow main road which is currently the only link between the two communities. Halfway is the terminus of the Supertram network in Sheffield & Killamarsh is a dormitory town for Sheffield & Chesterfield. It requires two new multi-user bridges. One across the railway line between Sheffield & Chesterfield, the other across the river Rother. This bridleway is just one of the many Connect 2 schemes up & down the country. Read the report with photographs of the construction work going on near Sheffield.
Latest photographs: Despite the snows of early February, Jackson Civil Engineering and their sub-contractors lifted into place the two bridleway bridges over the railway and the River Rother. The railway bridge was installed during the hours of darkness, but the photographs below show the River Rother bridge lift at 1000.
